Shamattawa Education Authority is excited to announce openings for two Grade 6 Teacher positions. Located on the northern shore where the God’s and Echoing Rivers meet, Shamattawa First Nation is 1277 kilometers north of Winnipeg and 365 kilometers east of Thompson by air. With a population of around 1500 residents, Cree is the primary language spoken in this community. Due to its remote setting, Shamattawa is accessible only by air and a seasonal winter road.
Our cutting-edge school, which cost $48 million to build, opened its doors to students on January 18th, 2016, serving learners from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. We provide a unique and engaging environment for passionate educators, both inside and outside the classroom. Community activities include hunting for moose, caribou, and geese, as well as fishing for Northern Pike, Whitefish, Sturgeon, and Brook Trout. The natural beauty of Spring and Fall enriches our surroundings, while winter offers opportunities for outdoor sports, such as skating on the school’s rink. Applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate. A clear Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry check is also required. Successful candidates will be committed to the education of First Nation children and will have the opportunity to utilize their skills in this exceptional environment.
