Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing and implementing educational programs that celebrate diversity, promote equity, and honor the vibrant cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a strong commitment to indigenization, an emphasis on a competency-based curriculum, and an innovative approach to land-based education.

Responsibilities:

  • Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community members to design and deliver a competency-based curriculum grounded in Indigenous knowledge and values.
  • Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning environment that recognizes and incorporates a variety of Indigenous perspectives, ensuring the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.
  • Equity and Inclusion: Implement strategies aimed at enhancing equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing inequalities and cultivating a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Community Engagement: Serve as a liaison between the school and the community, collecting input, encouraging collaboration, and seeking feedback to continuously improve educational programs.
  • Land-Based Education: Develop and integrate land-based learning experiences into the curriculum, promoting a deep connection to the land and traditional practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education
  • Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate

The following criteria will be essential in the hiring process:

  • A comprehensive understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.
  • Experience with inquiry-based teaching methods.
  • Background in implementing curriculum, particularly in competency-based education.
  • Experience with competency-based assessment and evaluation.
  • A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of the Northwest Territories' Inclusive Schooling practices.
  • Familiarity with land-based education principles and practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
