Position Description:
The Algonquins of Barriere Lake seek a dedicated and qualified teacher for Grades 1, 2, & 3 to join our educational team for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role involves working inclusively and respectfully with our children, youth, families, and community. Reporting to the Principal, you will be responsible for providing instruction, supervision, and educational services to our students, along with supporting extracurricular activities as needed.

You will follow the Quebec provincial (MEQ) and local curriculum while integrating ABL culture and traditions into your teaching. Adapting materials and teaching methods to cater to the individual needs of students is essential. Additionally, you will prepare annual, monthly, and daily lesson plans for ABL students as assigned, consistently assess and report on their intellectual, social, and academic growth, and establish high academic and behavioral expectations for both individual students and the class as a whole.

Punctuality, dedication, and a commitment to student success are vital. You will also be involved as a member of the school’s supervisory and extracurricular teams, including various school-based teams and committees. Regular consultation with the Principal and fellow colleagues will be necessary to enhance the educational experience for all students.

In your classroom, you will develop, display, and uphold a code of conduct, while also actively engaging family and community members in classroom activities. Communication with the Principal and parents regarding any significant student concerns will be crucial, with a minimum of 10 formal reports to parents each year, supplemented by at least two informal communications. You must promptly inform the Principal or designate of any safety issues in the school or on the playground and adhere strictly to all ABL Board of Education policies and directives.

Creating an annual professional growth plan to focus on areas for improvement and professional development is expected. Participation in both formal and informal Professional Development and in-service training is required, as well as maintaining up-to-date records as stipulated by ABL policies and the Principal. Active participation in all staff meetings is essential, along with any additional duties as assigned.

Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or an undergraduate degree with a teaching certificate.
- Member in good standing with the MEQ (or the ability to obtain membership).
- Knowledge of ABL and/or a willingness to learn and incorporate ABL principles in teaching.

Skills & Experience:
- Experience working with First Nation culture and children.
- Familiarity with the MEQ curriculum.
- A strong commitment to school success.
- Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to go the extra mile for student success.
- Ability to effectively plan, organize, and maintain student records.
- Skills in leading, motivating, encouraging, and empowering students.
- Proficiency in computer use with strong knowledge of educational applications and functions.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.

A signing bonus may be available for suitable candidates. Please note that accommodation is provided at no cost, and every other Friday is designated as a half workday. This contract may be renewed annually, contingent upon Teacher Evaluation Assessment.
