About This Role
The Psychology Teacher position at Rome International School (RIS) is a crucial role within the Middle High School (MHS) department, focused on integrating IBDP Psychology into the IGCSE and DP curriculum. The ideal candidate will create an inspiring learning atmosphere, delivering engaging lessons that empower students to reach their maximum potential. They will bring outstanding knowledge of the subject and a fervent enthusiasm for teaching psychology in a creative and engaging way. In addition, they will actively participate in the wider school community through extracurricular activities and collaboration within the department.
TEACHING AND LEARNING:
● Implement the internationally adapted Cambridge IGCSE and IBDP HL and SL Psychology curriculum. The role may also encompass teaching another subject area that aligns with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
● Inspire curiosity, interest, and enjoyment in Psychology among students.
● Provide timely feedback on student assessments, in line with departmental marking guidelines.
● Tailor learning experiences to meet diverse student needs, including strategies for EAL and SEN.
● Encourage understanding and application of Psychology in broader contexts.
● Assign homework consistent with policy and student workload expectations.
● Participate in departmental and MHSSLT classroom observations.
● Carry out report writing and internal grading responsibilities as required.
DEPARTMENTAL:
● Engage in extracurricular initiatives and share effective practices within the department.
● Complete subject-related tasks as assigned by the Head of Department.
● Attend departmental meetings and moderation sessions as necessary.
● Strictly follow departmental policies and curricular plans.
PASTORAL AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR:
● Take on pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor.
● Oversee student behavior in classrooms and throughout the school, upholding school policies.
● Contribute to extracurricular and sports programs as directed.
● Emphasize health and safety, ensuring adherence to school regulations.
OTHER DUTIES:
● Perform cover duties and examination supervision as needed.
● Carry out break, lunch, and chaperone responsibilities as assigned by the MHS Principal.
● Attend staff meetings, parent evenings, and professional development opportunities.
● Participate in the RIS Professional Growth Plan and performance review process.
REQUIREMENTS:
● Possess a relevant teaching degree or certification.
● Have at least three years of teaching experience.
● Proven experience teaching IB Psychology at SL or HL levels.
● Demonstrate a passion for teaching and a commitment to holistic student development.
● Maintain professionalism and prioritize the well-being of students.
● Show consistent engagement in extracurricular activities.
● Respect diversity within the school community.
● Previous experience working with students for whom English is a second language.
● Maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work.
● Hold an enhanced DBS disclosure.
