About This Role

SPGS International School prioritizes the safeguarding and welfare of children. The importance of child protection is paramount, and all staff will undergo thorough vetting, which includes an interview involving a safeguarding panel. New employees must complete an enhanced pre-employment screening process that entails identity verification, criminal background checks, qualification confirmation, and employment history checks, including the investigation of any employment gaps. Additionally, two satisfactory professional references will be required, which will be validated during the pre-employment phase.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly qualified, passionate, creative, adaptable, and enthusiastic Homeroom Teacher (EYFS) to commence in August 2026. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to ignite enthusiasm in children and be committed to supporting the school's ambitions, values, and holistic educational approach.

CONTRACT TYPE:

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

I. QUALIFICATION

Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (UK), PGCE, or a Degree in Primary Education.

NQT: Outstanding NQTs may be considered to join our teaching team.

II. EXPERIENCE

Candidates must possess:

• A minimum of two years teaching experience in Key Stage 1 education within the UK.

• Confidence and experience in teaching children aged 3-6 years.

III. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential: The successful applicant should demonstrate:

• Comprehensive knowledge and experience of the Key Stage 1 curriculum framework.

• An understanding of how children's learning is influenced by their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development, as well as an awareness of child development stages.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Summary

• Fulfill the teaching and professional responsibilities of an EYFS class teacher, maintaining the standards required for Qualified Teacher Status in accordance with school policies and guidelines.

• Foster a culture of learning and enthusiasm for life among students.

• Engage professionally with parents.

• Assist in the development and enhancement of the curriculum at SPGS International.

• Collaborate with fellow educators, particularly the Chinese Co-teacher, to jointly plan lessons and share insights and expertise.

• Stay informed about updates from the Department for Education and lead the department in curriculum knowledge.

• Adhere to both UK and People’s Republic of China education laws and policies.

General

• Follow the policies and procedures of SPGS International.

• Embody the school’s values and ethos.

• Serve as a positive role model in terms of communication, attire, behavior, and care of resources, consistent with the Staff Code of Conduct.

• Meet deadlines consistently.

Safeguarding

• Recognize and respect each child's social, cultural, and religious background, demonstrating mutual respect and tolerance.

• Implement SPGS International’s safeguarding policy to ensure the health and safety of children both on and off school property during their time under the school's supervision.

• Understand that health and safety are responsibilities for all employees, taking reasonable care of oneself and others, and complying with the school's wellbeing and safeguarding policies, as well as the laws of The People’s Republic of China and any school-specific procedures applicable to this role.

• Participate in assemblies, register pupil attendance, and supervise students.

Curriculum Development, Planning & Teaching

• Develop syllabuses, schemes of work, assessment criteria, and materials for EYFS that align with the UK National Curriculum, Chinese education authority requirements, and SPGS International’s enriched and localized curriculum.

• Contribute to designing an innovative and localized SPGS International curriculum for EYFS students to help them thrive academically and personally.

• Ensure that the school’s values and personal goals are reflected in daily practices and teaching materials.

• Collaborate in planning school events, including enrichment activities and the long-term curriculum map.

Pastoral Care

• Utilize daily morning registration time as part of the pastoral role.

• Adhere to the Pastoral Role guidelines outlined in the teachers’ handbook at SPGS International.

• Take an active interest in students' academic and extracurricular pursuits, ensuring they feel valued and cared for.

• Share responsibilities for the pastoral care, health, welfare, and behavior of all students, particularly those within your designated class.

• Lead Personal Development programs with your form group.

• Monitor class/form students’ work, providing guidance and support as needed.

• Maintain relevant records for individual student files and write reports.

• Coordinate the buddy program to facilitate regular student interactions across year groups.

Performance Management and Professional Development

• Engage in the school’s Professional Performance Review and teaching professional development initiatives.

Assessment and Reporting

Staff Wellbeing

• Implement a consistent system for monitoring, assessing, recording, and reporting on children's progress as required.

Behavior Management

• Uphold SPGS International School's behavior expectations, ensuring that all children adhere to standards regarding attire, punctuality, and school rules across all activities, including external events.

Classroom, School Resources Management, and Display

• Ensure an organized, inviting, and well-managed classroom and school environment.

• Take responsibility for the organization of classroom resources, making them accessible to students as necessary.

• Create a stimulating and engaging learning atmosphere, with displays that are regularly updated and relevant to students' work.

Homework

• Assign suitable and challenging tasks for students.

• Collaborate with colleagues to design, share, and monitor homework assignments.

ICT/AI and GDPR

• Comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the data protection policies of SPGS International.

• Enhance ICT skills to effectively utilize technology available to students while ensuring they develop their own skill set.

School Meetings

• Attend and contribute to staff meetings as needed, including department, year group, teaching and learning development, and curriculum meetings.

• Participate in parents’ evenings and open events, which may occur during evenings or weekends, as reasonably requested by the Headteacher.

School Assemblies

• Conduct a minimum of three school assemblies throughout the academic year, involving presentations from the entire class.

School Enrichment Events/Activities

• Assist in planning, organizing, or delivering school enrichment day events and activities, including residential programs as appropriate.

Extra-Curricular Duties

• Lead or supervise at least one extra-curricular activity weekly as part of the school's program.

• Help organize and assist with sporting events, school concerts, and excursions as applicable.

Duty and Cover

• Supervise students during non-instructional times as outlined in the duty rota.

• Coordinate with colleagues and remain flexible, including covering for staff absences.

Risk Management

• Adhere to the school's risk management policy, ensuring all events and activities (including off-campus trips) are safe, educational, and enjoyable, consulting with the Head of Primary School when needed.

• Ensure the safety and security of all children and staff, reporting any concerns to the Head of Primary School or designated personnel.

Communication with Parents

• Follow SPGS International School's policies regarding parent communication, fostering strong relationships and open dialogue with parents of students in your care.

• Keep parents and children informed about the curriculum, achievements, and their contributions to improvements.

• Attend parents’ evenings as required.

• Participate in parent education seminars or other events as requested by the school.

Ambassador for the School

• Foster high-quality relationships with all stakeholders.

• Promote a sense of community among staff, parents, and children that encourages support for the school’s vision and mission.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

5. Report any student concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.
6. Notify the designated safety lead of any unsafe behavior on campus in accordance with the school's whistleblowing policy.
7. Maintain professional relationships with students, respecting personal boundaries.

Compensation

£2,800 - £3,500 per month (Initial Flights + Relocation Allowance + International Insurance + Housing Allowance + Annual Flights)
