About This Role

We are seeking a passionate and innovative English Teacher to join our dynamic team at a thriving secondary school committed to delivering a rich and engaging curriculum. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire a love of literature and language, while developing students’ confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

The successful candidate will also take on the role of Second in Department, supporting the Head of English in leading and developing the curriculum, driving standards, and contributing to departmental strategy. This position is suitable for teachers on the Main Pay Scale through to the Upper Pay Range, and comes with a generous TLR in recognition of the additional leadership responsibilities.

You will:

  • Teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons in language and literature

  • Support the Head of Department as Second in Department, contributing to curriculum development, assessment, and raising standards

  • Lead on key areas of the curriculum and enrichment, such as literacy initiatives or extracurricular activities

  • Create a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love of reading and writing

  • Support students in developing analytical, creative, and communication skills

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds QTS and has experience teaching English in a UK secondary school

  • Has strong subject knowledge and a passion for literature and language

  • Demonstrates leadership potential and the ability to support departmental improvement

  • Can motivate, challenge, and inspire students of all abilities
