An exciting opportunity awaits with the Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch at one of our three (3) Schools for the Deaf:
- Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf (Elementary & Secondary) - Milton
Our schools are dedicated to providing exceptional education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. We are currently on the lookout for innovative educators who hold valid certification with the Ontario College of Teachers and are keen on supply/on-call teaching roles.
Daily Rate(s):
The daily pay for a certified Supply Teacher is set at $262.09.
Please be advised that PDSB is accepting applications from teachers who are OCT certified and are interested in pursuing the Deaf Specialist qualification. While full fluency in ASL is not mandatory, support from an ASL/English Interpreter will be available in the classroom to assist the selected candidate in achieving fluency in ASL.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be Certified and in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT); candidates with a Transitional Certificate or those who are awaiting their OCT are encouraged to apply.
- Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (PDSB will consider candidates currently pursuing this specialist qualification or those open to obtaining it).
- Qualifications in Primary/Junior and/or Intermediate/Senior divisions.
- Preferred experience in instructing Deaf/hard of hearing students in academic environments and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred. (PDSB welcomes candidates who are willing to achieve ASL fluency).
ABILITIES:
- Capable of teaching Deaf students in both academic programs and those tailored for students with multiple exceptionalities.
- Proficient in developing or adapting lesson plans and creating IEPs to effectively educate Deaf students.
- Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the principles of teaching Deaf students.
- Effective in classroom and student management utilizing various behavioral management strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficient in ASL and English, capable of writing and presenting educational materials and lesson plans.
- Knowledgeable about bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students.
- Ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team and work with students with multiple exceptionalities.
