Assistant Headteacher - Curriculum Design & Adaptation
The ideal candidate will take charge of curriculum mapping, focusing on adapting to the diverse needs of learners and promoting cross-curricular links that enhance the educational experience. They will lead the advancement of subject areas by collaborating closely with middle leaders to assess, refine, and elevate standards, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision for reflective and action-research based practices. By engaging in continuous reflection and utilizing data-driven insights, they will prioritize professional development, guaranteeing that staff possess the skills, exposure, and mentorship necessary to innovate and deliver effective teaching. Furthermore, they will play a crucial role in showcasing student learning and achievements to the wider school community, celebrating successes and fostering engagement with stakeholders.
Job Purpose
The primary objective of this position is to provide professional and highly effective leadership and management support that drives outstanding results across all aspects of school life. This role supports an inspiring vision and clear direction that is embraced by all members of the school and the Senior Leadership Team. Collaborating with Senior Leaders, the Assistant Head will ensure that the curriculum, teaching, and assessment practices inspire high levels of engagement, achievement, and progress for students across all abilities.
Key Accountabilities
Inspirational and Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with the Head of School to implement and oversee systems that ensure the smooth operation of daily school activities.
- Advocate for Taaleem’s mission of “inspiring young minds,” our vision of being the most respected educational provider in the Gulf, as well as our core values and strategic initiatives.
- Foster a shared inspiring vision dedicated to high standards among all members of the Primary School.
- Provide supportive leadership for school improvement initiatives through effective strategic leadership and planning for the Foundation Stage that aligns with Taaleem’s vision, mission, and values.
- Clearly communicate the school’s objectives so that all staff understand their responsibilities and are equipped and motivated to achieve the school’s goals.
- Inspire and empower teachers and support staff by clearly defining roles and aligning them with school priorities.
- Be open and responsive to external evaluations of the school, managing the process professionally and efficiently with senior colleagues.
- Offer regular feedback and encouragement to help others reach their targets.
- Foster a collaborative spirit, encouraging contributions and cooperation between departments.
Self-Evaluation and Improvement Planning
- Assist the Headteacher in ensuring the Primary academic program meets the needs of all students and provides appropriate challenges.
- Support the Head of Primary’s efforts to achieve and maintain ‘Outstanding’ inspection ratings in the Foundation Stage.
- Monitor teachers’ planning, assess classroom experiences, track student attainment, and evaluate progress toward established targets.
- Help oversee the performance of all Primary teaching and support staff.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure accurate collection and analysis of relevant information from within the school as well as external data sources, including international assessments and stakeholder surveys.
- Assist teachers in setting ambitious yet realistic goals aimed at enhancing student performance.
- Adapt to and manage change swiftly and effectively.
- Work alongside the Senior Leadership Team to incorporate recommendations from previous inspections and evaluations into the school’s improvement plans.
- Maintain oversight of all curriculum review and development activities, ensuring proper alignment with educational standards.
