Reports to: Head of Department

Location: Westlink International School, Hanoi

Position Type: Full-time

Position Overview

The MYP Design Teacher delivers high-quality, inquiry-based Design instruction within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The teacher supports students in developing design thinking, problem-solving skills, creativity, collaboration, and responsible use of technology, while fostering the IB Learner Profile attributes. As part of Westlink’s commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, the teacher contributes actively to curriculum development, collaborative planning, and wider school life.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and teach MYP Design classes aligned with the IB MYP Design framework.
  • Deliver well-structured lessons addressing MYP aims, key and related concepts, global contexts, and assessment criteria.
  • Guide students through the full design cycle: inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating solutions, and evaluating.
  • Differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Foster student agency, inquiry, collaboration, and reflection through hands-on and project-based learning.
  • Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, including self-management, communication, and critical thinking, into daily practice.
  • Promote safe, ethical, and responsible use of tools, materials, and digital technologies.

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Contribute to unit planning, review, and vertical alignment of the MYP Design curriculum.
  • Develop engaging design briefs, tasks, and assessment criteria aligned with IB expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reporting processes.
  • Participate in assessment moderation and standardisation to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Support interdisciplinary learning opportunities, including interdisciplinary units (IDUs).

Student Support & Wellbeing

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students that promote confidence, resilience, and risk-taking in learning.
  • Provide pastoral care as a homeroom/advisory teacher, contributing to student wellbeing and community.
  • Support students requiring additional guidance with organisation, planning, or technical skills.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress and learning outcomes.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Engage in ongoing professional learning, including IB training and school-led initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching practice and cross-curricular connections.
  • Uphold Westlink’s policies, safeguarding standards, and code of conduct at all times.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in teaching, assessment, and student achievement.

Wider School Contributions

  • Participate in school events, celebrations, exhibitions, and community activities.
  • Lead or support co-curricular activities (CCAs), such as design clubs, robotics, coding, maker spaces, or STEAM initiatives.
  • Support service learning, student leadership, and international-mindedness initiatives.
  • Represent the Design department in parent engagement activities and school events.
  • Contribute to alignment between MYP Design, bilingual pathways, and future high school offerings.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Technology, Engineering, Education, or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching middle school or secondary Design, Technology, or related subjects.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based and concept-based learning.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching in an IB MYP school.
  • Familiarity with the MYP Design cycle and assessment criteria.
  • Experience with digital design tools, coding, robotics, or product design.
  • Experience supporting interdisciplinary or STEAM-based learning.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
