About This Role
UWCSEA is seeking a Head of Libraries - Teacher Librarian for its East Campus.
This dual-role position involves leading and educating with a focus on both the strategic growth and operational effectiveness of the East Campus libraries. A key aspect of this position is our vision: to connect our community with the world through books, people, and diverse perspectives.
The ideal candidate will oversee two libraries and serve as the Teacher Librarian for Grades 6-12, managing library services throughout the campus. This role encompasses both strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the libraries operate efficiently on a daily basis while advancing innovative practices within school librarianship, transforming libraries into dynamic centers that support our comprehensive learning initiatives. We are looking for a remarkable leader, with a potential start date in August 2026, January 2027, or August 2027. Please indicate your preferred start date or availability in your cover letter.
The Head of Libraries plays a vital role in our commitment to Teaching for DEIJ, specifically in the curation of our library collection. This includes ensuring that our collection reflects diversity not only in representation but also in intellectual, cultural, historical, and ideological dimensions, aligning with our dedication to intentional diversity. Additionally, a major focus will involve guiding the community as we navigate the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI), ensuring that the library remains an essential resource for inquiry, academic integrity, and human connection.

Main Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Innovation
- Visionary Strategy: Refine and execute our inspiring vision for the future of the East Campus libraries as innovative learning spaces.
- AI Integration & Leadership: Guide the campus in grasping the intersection of AI and information literacy, proactively identifying how AI can improve research and curation while establishing ethical usage protocols.
- Innovation Advocacy: Encourage new approaches to library services, discovering innovative ways to connect individuals and ideas.
- Inter-Campus Collaboration: Establish strong strategic partnerships with the Dover Campus Library Team to ensure coherence and shared professional development across the College.
- Community Engagement: Actively engage with our parent community, positioning the Library as an integral part of campus life.
Teaching, Learning & Academic Integrity
- Academic Integrity: Assist the community in maintaining high academic integrity standards, leading the development of resources to support students with citation, attribution, and ethical information utilization.
- Professional Learning: Facilitate professional development for staff, empowering educators to incorporate advanced research skills and innovative library resources into their teaching.
- Coaching: Collaborate with Learning Coaches and Heads of Department to embed meaningful literature engagement within units. Provide coaching and support for teachers and students regarding the specific requirements of TOK and the Extended Essay.
Curation & Space Design
- Future-Forward Collections: Oversee the creation of a diverse, high-quality collection (both physical and digital) that represents a multitude of perspectives, preparing students for a complex future.
- Space Evolution: Collaborate to design library environments that are inclusive, adaptable, and conducive to deep focus and interaction.
