About This Role

Key Responsibilities


Manage the planning activities within the department, integrating curriculum mapping, assessment approaches, and ensuring conformity with school goals and external examination criteria.


Support, mentor, and foster the professional growth of departmental staff through lesson assessments, performance reviews, and the promotion of best teaching methods.


Create and deliver engaging, structured English lessons.


Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students and promote academic advancement at all levels.


Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and well-organized classroom environment that encourages high standards of behavior and student engagement.


Effectively use both formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, guide instructional methods, and improve student outcomes.


Aid in the academic, social, and emotional development of students in line with the attributes of the IB learner profile.


Thoroughly prepare students for their external examinations at IGCSE and A Level.


Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the curriculum, share effective practices, and improve the overall teaching and learning experience.

Requirements:

Essential


Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related field.


A PGCE / PGDE or an equivalent qualification.


Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching English at the Secondary School level.


At least 2 years in a Head of Department position.


Proven experience teaching IGCSE and/or A Level English is required.


Strong skills in classroom management and behavioral oversight.


Proven ability to support and enhance student performance.


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Fluent or native-level proficiency in English.

Desirable


Experience with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).


Experience in international school settings.
