About This Role
The Deputy Head (Pastoral & Safeguarding) will join the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and will be accountable for delivering exceptional pastoral care to all students, ensuring they reach their full potential and develop essential life skills. Additionally, this role will be the primary lead for Safeguarding and Child Protection, serving as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the entire school during the upcoming academic year. This position will encompass responsibilities across the senior school and will include some teaching duties.
Pastoral Leadership/Management and Safeguarding
- Serve as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Senior School.
- Take charge of fostering a safeguarding culture that permeates all areas of the school, promoting the mindset of "it could happen here."
- Ensure the values of Brighton College are fully integrated within the school community.
- Develop and oversee target-setting strategies alongside the Deputy Head Academic to enhance the overall pupil experience.
- Coordinate the effective rollout of the PSHE and RSE programs with Tutors, and, once the school expands, with Heads of Year.
- Lead all initiatives related to behavior management within the Senior School.
- Maintain detailed records of all behavioral, disciplinary, and safeguarding issues in compliance with Brighton College, BSO, and other relevant international and local inspection standards.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure an accurate log of all complaints is kept. Manage cross-phase communication with the Prep School and Pre-Prep Leadership Team to facilitate seamless transitions in pastoral care.
- Initiate the formation of pupil committees, like the Pupil Council, to ensure student input contributes to school improvements.
- Oversee the selection and training process for Senior School pupil leadership roles, such as Head Boy, Head Girl, Prefects, and Heads of Houses.
- Maintain oversight of all charity and social responsibility initiatives.
- Prepare an annual review of all policies and documentation regarding pastoral care and safeguarding in the Senior School.
- Organize and conduct pastoral information sessions for pupils and parents.
- Function as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for Brighton College (Singapore) Senior School.
- Lead the Senior School's Safeguarding team.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, including the Designated Safeguarding Lead in the Prep School and the Regional Safeguarding Lead, as well as external agencies, to ensure that all safeguarding policies and procedures are strictly enforced and that every student under our care is protected and supported.
- Manage the Senior School assembly schedule.
- Develop an engaging and effective Tutor Time program.
- Oversee the implementation and evaluation of Komodo, the pupil well-being platform.
- Monitor attendance in the Senior School.
- Collaborate closely with the Deputy Head (Academic) to ensure robust and effective reporting processes in the Senior School.
- Oversee the system of Rewards and Sanctions in the Senior School and be responsible for delivering the PSHE and RSE curriculum, including facilitating Pastoral drop-down sessions.
- Contribute to the overall culture of pastoral care and safeguarding within the school.
- Liaise with parents and external agencies as necessary to foster positive relationships outside the College community.
- Participate in the SLT’s efforts to monitor and assess teaching and learning throughout the school.
- Conduct and document regular Site Security Audits to identify any vulnerabilities in the school’s systems and structures.
- Work to maintain and improve the College’s operational effectiveness and support the overall performance of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
- Ensure Brighton College values are fully integrated into the College community.
- Assist in the collection and distribution of information related to the College for marketing and communication purposes.
