Selly Oak Nursery School is looking for a warm, enthusiastic and reliable Playworker to join our staff team on a permanent casual basis.

This is a zero-hours contract, meaning that there are no guaranteed weekly hours. However, the successful candidate will become a valued member of our staff team and will be offered work when additional staffing is required, for example to cover staff absence, training or other periods of additional need within the nursery.

We are particularly interested in finding someone who can offer a good degree of flexibility and who may sometimes be available to work at relatively short notice.

About the role

Working alongside our experienced nursery team, you will help to provide high-quality care, education and support for children aged 2-4 years.

The role may include:

• Supporting children’s learning through play and our child-centred Early Years curriculum
• Working with individuals and small groups of children
• Supporting children with additional needs
• Helping children with their personal care and developing independence
• Supporting children during mealtimes and throughout the nursery day
• Helping to maintain a stimulating, welcoming and safe learning environment
• Working collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants and other members of the nursery team
• Following the school’s safeguarding, health and safety and other relevant policies and procedures

We are looking for someone who:

• Genuinely enjoys working with young children
• Is kind, patient and responsive to children’s individual needs
• Understands the importance of play in young children’s learning and development
• Is reliable, flexible and able to work as part of a close-knit team
• Has high expectations for all children
• Is willing to support children with a wide range of needs, including personal care where required
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and maintaining professional confidentiality
• Is able to respond positively to the changing needs of a busy nursery school

Previous experience of working with children in an Early Years or school setting would be an advantage. For qualifications, please see Person Specification.

Contract arrangements

This is a permanent zero-hours contract. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours and the amount of work available will vary according to the needs of the school. When cover is required, the school will contact casual staff to offer available work.
