Position Overview:

The Elementary School EAL Teacher plays a crucial role in helping elementary learners enhance their English language skills through collaborative teaching, planning, and assessment alongside homeroom teachers. By implementing the Sheltered Immersion Model and utilizing data-driven instructional strategies, they provide tailored support for diverse learners while promoting multilingualism. EAL teachers will assess and track progress in accordance with the WIDA framework, ensuring students achieve growth in language proficiency to foster both academic and social success.

Leading the Learning

ISB Teachers are expected to:

● Deliver engaging and purposeful learning experiences that align with ISB’s curriculum practices, standards, benchmarks, and learning outcomes, reflecting the school’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Community of Practice.

● Actively engage in team meetings with a growth mindset, focusing on enhancing learning for all students.

● Collaborate with counselors, administration, and other staff members to support students' social, emotional, and academic success.

● Evaluate student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback to enhance educational outcomes.

● Adapt instruction based on student needs informed by data-driven insights.

● Exhibit proficiency in differentiating instruction for students requiring both enrichment and support.

● Participate in professional development to implement research-based practices in teaching and student care at ISB.

● Maintain open and collaborative communication with parents or guardians to positively influence student learning and well-being.

● Contribute positively to the school culture through a spirit of care, positivity, and a shared sense of community.

● Uphold high expectations for all students while providing robust support systems.

Additional Responsibilities:

● Encourage student engagement and connection by sponsoring a student club or participating in non-stipended extracurricular activities.

● Assist in assessing new students, including evaluating their English proficiency and meeting with families.

● Gather and analyze WIDA and other assessment data to track progress and guide instructional planning.

● Facilitate data-driven discussions among teachers and teams to ensure student needs are effectively addressed.

● Advocate for the importance of multilingualism and foster a culture where all languages are valued and celebrated.

The ideal candidate will:

● Possess a valid teaching license and EAL certification (e.g., TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or equivalent), with a preference for a Master’s degree in a related field.

● Have experience with and a commitment to an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning.

● Demonstrate experience in teaching English Language Learners.

● Have a proven track record of using data to inform instruction within a Professional Learning Community (PLC).

● Be committed to pedagogical best practices aligned with contemporary educational research.

● Embody the ISB Professional Standards of Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Care, Collaboration, and Commitment.

● Exhibit a good sense of humor.

● Demonstrate the ability to scaffold instruction to facilitate language acquisition.

● Understand and effectively apply the Sheltered Immersion Model in the classroom.

● Have experience in assessing language proficiency and utilizing WIDA data to monitor progress.

● Show skill in differentiating instruction and employing translanguaging strategies to support diverse learners.

● Have familiarity with MTSS/RTI frameworks, especially in providing Tier 2 interventions.

WORKING REQUIREMENTS:

● Availability for some evening and weekend commitments to support school events.

● Active involvement in the curricular and co-curricular activities of the school.

● Chaperoning and/or leading international and local student trips.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
