Job Summary
The Head of Development (HOD) plays a vital role in collaboration with the School Leadership Team. Should it be appropriate, there may also be international opportunities within the broader Invictus Group of Schools.
The HOD will be fully responsible for leading and managing their department, ensuring the effective administration of both the standard academic program and associated extracurricular activities.
This position is key in directing a professional team of educators to provide a customized curriculum, outstanding teaching, and a comprehensive educational experience for students at Invictus.
The Heads of Department will assist the Deputy Principal(s) in cultivating a vibrant and supportive school atmosphere that embodies our core values, while also promoting a high-quality educational program within a secure, positive, and health-conscious learning environment.
A spirit of collaboration and strong communication skills are essential for fostering supportive relationships with staff, students, parents, and building an effective departmental team.
1. Leadership – School Development
- Work alongside the Principal to set the educational goals and objectives of the school and devise strategies to reach them.
- Support the Principal in coordinating the school plan and policies for approval from the Academic Board, Examination Board, and Board of Management.
- Assist school staff in achieving the aims, objectives, and plans of the institution.
2. Teaching & Learning
- Cultivate a learning atmosphere that encourages students to excel.
- Create and implement appropriate learning and curriculum programs, along with instructional methods that address the diverse needs of all students, including effective timetabling.
- Promote effective teaching and learning practices throughout the school.
- Contribute to the development of the school curriculum and assessment policies.
- Establish systems to monitor individual student progress and ensure regular communication with parents about their children's achievements.
- Partner with the Principal to oversee the evaluation of teaching and learning and develop improvement strategies.
3. Management – People & Teams
- Foster strong working relationships with the Principal, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Assist the Principal in staff development training and identifying the staffing and training requirements for both teaching and support staff.
- Lead, mentor, and assess teachers to ensure effective teaching and learning outcomes.
- Develop comprehensive policies and procedures for the three core areas of the subject(s): Curriculum, Assessment, and Pedagogy.
- Enhance and integrate teaching and learning processes to create a high-performing system.
4. Communication
- Create and maintain effective communication systems with students, staff, parents, and colleagues.
- Implement all school policies with a clear understanding of their intent.
5. Organizational and Administrative Management
- Assist the Principal with the daily management of the school, including planning and overseeing the daily class schedule.
- Support the Principal in managing student discipline, promoting good order, and general supervision between classes.
- Manage the roster for absent teachers and supervise the implementation and monitoring of substitute teaching staff.
