OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

The American School of Vietnam (TAS) is a distinguished international institution committed to offering an exceptional, inquiry-based education in line with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Located in Vietnam, TAS fosters a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to become lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Design Teacher, proficient in coding, robotics, makerspace, and artificial intelligence (AI), to join our elementary school’s Primary Years Programme team. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore, create, and innovate through exciting hands-on projects and activities that integrate technology with design thinking.

This position focuses on delivering engaging Computer Science instruction within the IB PYP framework for elementary/primary school learners. The successful applicant will also play a vital role in integrating technology across the curriculum, supporting both teachers and students in effectively utilizing digital tools to enhance the learning experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

+++A minimum of 3 years of experience in a PYP-authorized institution

· A Bachelor’s degree in education, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (a master’s degree is preferred).

· Teaching certification and/or relevant experience in elementary or middle school education.

· Proficiency in coding languages such as Scratch, Python, or JavaScript.

· Familiarity with robotics platforms including LEGO Mindstorms, Arduino, or VEX.

· Understanding of AI concepts and their educational applications.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.

· A creative mindset, flexibility, and a passion for innovation in education.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Curriculum Development

· Develop engaging and age-appropriate curriculum materials that integrate coding, robotics, makerspace, and AI concepts into elementary education.

· Create projects and activities that foster creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration among students.

· Ensure that the curriculum aligns with educational standards and learning objectives.

Instruction

· Conduct lessons in coding languages such as Scratch, Python, or JavaScript for students of varying ages and skill levels.

· Lead hands-on learning experiences in robotics that involve the design, construction, and programming of robots.

· Facilitate student engagement with AI concepts through interactive lessons and projects.

· Supervise and assist students in utilizing makerspace resources for their creative projects.

Classroom Management

· Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to experiment, take risks, and learn from their failures.

· Effectively manage classroom materials, equipment, and technology resources.

· Cultivate a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety within the classroom.

Assessment and Feedback

· Assess student progress using a variety of evaluation methods, including projects, presentations, and quizzes.

· Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and their families to support growth and development.

· Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate and improve instructional practices.

Professional Development

· Stay updated on current trends and best practices in coding, robotics, makerspace, and AI education.

· Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

· Share expertise with colleagues through workshops, presentations, and collaborative projects.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
*Estimated range based on regional data averages.
