Position Overview:
We are looking for a passionate and committed Educator to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing educational programs that embrace diversity, promote equity, and honor the vibrant cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a strong commitment to indigenization, a focus on competency-based learning, and an innovative approach to land-based education.
Responsibilities:
- Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community partners to design and execute a competency-based curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.
- Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning atmosphere that respects and incorporates diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring the curriculum mirrors the local Indigenous culture.
- Equity and Inclusion: Create and implement strategies that promote equity and inclusion within the school, addressing disparities and cultivating a sense of belonging for all students.
- Community Engagement: Serve as a bridge between the school and the community, actively seeking feedback and collaboration to continuously improve educational programs.
- Land-Based Education: Develop and integrate land-based learning opportunities into the curriculum, fostering a deep connection to the land and traditional practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education
- Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate

- A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.
- Experience with inquiry-based teaching methodologies.
- Background in implementing curricula focused on competency-based education.
- Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of inclusive schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
- Familiarity with principles and practices of land-based education.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
