About This Role

Are you ready for your next adventure?

The Post
The British School of Ulaanbaatar is on the lookout for a dedicated, passionate, and highly driven qualified teacher of Business Studies for an initial contract spanning two academic years, from August 2026 to July 2028, with the possibility for renewal thereafter. A comprehensive job description accompanies this announcement.

Successful candidates will possess:
- A UK teaching qualification such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or an equivalent, with the PGCE/PGDE supported by a relevant Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience teaching in the UK or Cambridge IGCSE & AS/A Level.
- Outstanding subject knowledge.
- A demonstrated history of delivering exceptional teaching and learning.

It is advantageous for applicants to have:
- Potential for a Head of Faculty position in the Humanities Department.

Candidates should have prior training in the National Curriculum of England and Wales, and experience in UK or international schools following a British-style curriculum is highly valued. We seek professional, adaptable, and innovative educators who possess cultural sensitivity and a spirit of adventure.

Alongside the teaching responsibilities associated with this role, BSU has a vibrant extracurricular activity program to which all teachers are expected to contribute. We especially encourage applicants who are eager to engage actively with the Ulaanbaatar community and beyond.

The school year runs from mid-August to mid-June, with details for the 2026/27 academic year to be provided to candidates as soon as possible.

The School
Founded in 2012, the British School of Ulaanbaatar stands out as one of Central Asia's premier institutions, committed to providing students aged three to eighteen with a world-class education that emphasizes academic excellence and personal development through challenges. We take pride in our academic achievements and the diverse educational experiences offered to students of all ages. The school follows the Cambridge International curricula, preparing students for IGCSEs and A-Levels. Most of our graduates proceed to esteemed international universities worldwide. We welcome both expatriate and Mongolian families while fostering a family-oriented community atmosphere.

BSU is a proud member of the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO) and the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), achieving Patron’s Accreditation in 2018 and full BSO accreditation in 2022. Additionally, we are part of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network and became a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) in June 2023. The school recently underwent a BSO inspection in March 2026.

The Location
Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, features a dynamic urban landscape alongside historic lamaseries and ger districts. It offers a rich social life where local and expatriate communities interact seamlessly. There are direct flights to various global hubs, including Seoul, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Istanbul, as well as flights to more remote domestic locations.

Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, Ulaanbaatar provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities and unique cultural experiences. Residents can engage in trekking, horseback riding, skiing, cycling, and camping, allowing the adventurous to explore the lakes, forests, mountains, and deserts of this stunning country.

Mongolia's climate is characterized by extremes, but the low humidity makes both summer and winter conditions more manageable than one might expect. Periods of high pressure lead to clear, blue skies, enabling staff to appreciate the dramatic landscapes. Significant improvements in air quality have been noted in Ulaanbaatar over the past six years due to government initiatives promoting smokeless fuels.

Terms and Conditions
The initial contract will commence on 12th August 2026, coinciding with the induction and onboarding phase for new staff. Salaries are competitive and based on experience. Additional benefits include complete remission of tuition fees for dependent children at the school, medical insurance, and allowances for flights and luggage at the start and conclusion of the contract. Furnished accommodation on or near the school campus is available and is preferred by most expatriate staff. Further details regarding terms and conditions will be provided following successful interviews.

How to apply
To apply for this position, please submit the following information:
- A completed TES online application form detailing your qualifications, professional training, and employment history, along with a cover letter highlighting your interest in and suitability for the role, including relevant skills and attributes.
- Contact information for at least two referees, one of whom must be your current or most recent employer (Head of School/Principal or Chair of the Governing Body).

All documents must be submitted via the Schrole portal. The application deadline is Friday, 24th April 2026. Early submissions are encouraged as interviews will be conducted online as soon as possible, and the school reserves the right to appoint candidates before the deadline. The recruitment process will be conducted online, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We encourage all interested parties to review the School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Whistleblowing Policy, which are included in this advertisement, prior to applying.

Candidates who successfully pass the interview process should expect to undergo full background and reference checks, as well as provide personal and medical information necessary for entry into Mongolia. Referees will be asked to confirm that applicants are not subject to any ongoing safeguarding or disciplinary investigations and are unaware of any issues that would prevent them from working with children. Applicants from the UK will need to undergo a vetting and barring check prior to arrival in Mongolia, with equivalent checks conducted for individuals from other nationalities. Additionally, all applicants must provide certificates of good conduct from each country of prior residence and employment. Applicants should be aware that any history of criminal activity or convictions on their permanent record will disqualify them from employment at BSU and residency in Mongolia.
