The ideal candidate will provide top-notch lessons in GCSE and BTEC Dance, encouraging both technical skill development and a profound appreciation for performance and choreography. Additionally, there is considerable opportunity to lead and enhance a lively co-curricular program, which includes dance clubs and paid classes, thereby enriching the overall student experience. Candidates must possess a PGCE and/or an accredited dance teaching qualification.

We are particularly keen on educators with expertise in theatre dance, modern jazz, and/or ballet, who can infuse energy, knowledge, and industry-relevant practices into their teaching. A strong enthusiasm for performance, creativity, and fostering student confidence is crucial.

Job description

Key Duties

Teaching and Learning

• Plan and prepare engaging lessons;

• Instruct assigned students, tailoring to their educational needs while maintaining high expectations;

• Set and assess students’ work, including examinations;

• Evaluate, document, and report on students’ development, progress, and achievements;

• Provide constructive feedback to aid students' progress;

• Modify lesson plans based on student feedback and performance;

Reporting and Assessing

• Submit regular reports and grades for students aligned with the School’s reporting cycle;

• Identify and escalate concerns regarding students;

• Participate in parent-teacher meetings, offering oral updates to parents;

• Prepare references for students upon request;

• Assess and report on prospective students when needed;

• Organize examinations and tests for students, including standardized assessments;

Other Duties

• Take attendance promptly and notify a senior staff member if there are concerns about a student's whereabouts;

• Maintain a classroom that is vibrant and conducive to learning;

• Support the wellbeing of individual students and all assigned classes;

• Encourage positive behavior among students;

• Address any concerns regarding students’ wellbeing, notifying the safeguarding team as necessary, and maintain appropriate records;

• Engage with parents of students;

• Accompany students on school trips and visits;

• Oversee students and their activities as needed;

• Lead two extracurricular activities each week;

• Assist in promoting the School to prospective students and their families;

• Cover lessons for absent colleagues when necessary;

Secondary School

• Attend and actively contribute to department and staff meetings as required;

• Participate in department development plans and schemes of work, and undertake tasks assigned by the Head of Department;

• Serve as a mentor or Sixth Form Tutor for a group of students, offering guidance on education, career, and social matters, and lead PSHE lessons;

Professional Development

• Engage in continuous professional development through CPD, further reading, and other learning opportunities;

• Participate in the School’s focused development program and annual performance management;

• Join in CPD initiatives organized by the School, such as observation fortnight.

The School is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to uphold this commitment. The successful candidate will undergo security vetting.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
