About Shaftesbury Statement

Shaftesbury is a disability charity offering care, education, vocational and rehab services. The charity also provides residential care, nursing and supported living. 

Within the education sector, Shaftesbury has one school, Shaftesbury Victoria School, and 2 further education colleges, Shaftesbury Millie College and Shaftesbury Nash College. The school is for students aged 3-19, and the colleges are for students aged 16-25. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and some have profound and complex learning needs.

 

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior PE Teaching Assistant to support the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive Physical Education curriculum. Working under the direction of the PE Teacher, you will contribute to planning, deliver learning activities, and support students to develop physical confidence, independence, and lifelong skills.

 

You will play a key role in delivering PE sessions, including swimming and hydrotherapy, supporting therapy programmes, and contributing to extra-curricular opportunities that enrich student learning and wellbeing.

 

This is a pivotal role within the Physical Wellbeing team, supporting both student progress and the effective organisation of PE provision across the school.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver PE learning activities for individuals, groups, and occasionally whole classes

  • Support planning, assessment, and recording of student progres

  • Assist with swimming, hydrotherapy, and therapy-led interventions

  • Promote inclusion, independence, and positive behaviour in all activities

  • Prepare, organise, and maintain PE equipment and learning environments

  • Support extra-curricular provision including clubs, trips, and enrichment

  • Contribute to a safe, well-managed and purposeful learning environment

 

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field

  • Minimum 12 months’ experience in a PE or SEND environment

  • Understanding of PE curriculum and assessment approaches

  • Knowledge of supporting students with complex needs and personal care

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing

  • Ability to motivate, engage and support learners effectively
