About This Role
The Middle School Teacher is responsible for the effective day-to-day leadership of their class and for delivering a dynamic, forward-thinking curriculum that inspires curiosity, ambition, and a love of learning. They will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that challenges pupils to think critically, develop independence, and grow into confident, capable young people.
As a Form Teacher, you have a pivotal pastoral role, supporting the academic progress, well-being, and personal development of pupils within their form group. They act as the primary point of contact for pupils, parents, and relevant staff, ensuring that each child is known, supported, and guided throughout the school year. The Form Teacher fosters strong relationships, monitors pupil welfare, and contributes to a positive, safe, and aspirational school culture.
Hours of work: Monday to Friday (inclusive), hours 8:00 – 17:30 (16:30 onsite apart from 1 after-school activity per week), term time only.
Duties and responsibilities: Have a genuine passion for the teaching and learning in Years 3 or 4. Provide inspirational teaching to a class of middle school pupils (either Year 3 or 4) Attend weekly meetings of the year group team Engage fully with the year group team, offering ideas and stimulus to continually develop the offer for all pupils Deploy excellent IT skills across a range of programs to support all areas of IT Develop and deliver planning to meet the needs of pupils across the class, providing both support and stretch Use formative and summative assessments to plan next steps for pupils Provide written school reports and conduct parental meetings as required Build strong and positive relationships with parents. Ensure regular and ongoing engagement with training and personal development Ability to probe, challenge and question appropriately and strive for continual improvement Keep up to date and understand the issues affecting preparatory and primary education Be a proactive part of the School’s appraisal cycle to enhance teaching and learning in the School. To safeguard the health and safety of the children in the classroom and assume pastoral responsibility for them To encourage children to value themselves and others in the quality and nature of their learning. To monitor and evaluate children’s progress by keeping an appropriate systematic record of their achievements over a day/week/term/year, depending on the context. To carry out assessment procedures in line with agreed school policy and legal requirements To ensure assessment forms part of the initial planning of work To communicate the results of any assessment to the relevant groups. Qualifications A well-qualified graduate in an exemplary teaching record, QTS status or equivalent Knowledge and understanding A clear understanding of curricular development in Years 3 & 4 To have excellent knowledge of subject matter across all areas of the curriculum Ability to enthuse and encourage the children in their learning, whatever their ability level To have a passion for all areas with a desire to be innovative An understanding of different learning styles Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its application Knowledge of child protection guidelines and procedures. An area of specialism to enhance our co-curricular offer Strong ICT skills and confident ability using Microsoft products and interactive whiteboards Be sympathetic to the Christian ethos of the school Experienced Prep School or Primary School teacher.
