Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and committed Educator to become part of our team. The ideal applicant will play a vital role in creating and implementing educational programs that recognize diversity, advocate for equity, and honor the vibrant cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a strong dedication to indigenization, a competency-focused curriculum, and an inventive approach to land-based education.
Responsibilities:
- Course Development: Collaborate with other educators, Elders, and community members to design and execute a competency-based curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.
- Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning atmosphere that respects and incorporates diverse Indigenous viewpoints, ensuring the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture accurately.
- Equity and Inclusion: Create and implement strategies to improve equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing current disparities and promoting a sense of belonging for all students.
- Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and the community, proactively seeking collaboration, input, and feedback to continually improve educational offerings.
- Land-Based Education: Develop and integrate land-based learning opportunities into the curriculum, fostering a deep connection to the land and traditional practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education
- Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate
The following criteria will be essential in the selection process:
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.
- Experience with inquiry-based teaching methodologies.
- Experience in implementing curricula with an emphasis on competency-based education.
- Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.
- Proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Understanding of Inclusive Schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
- Familiarity with principles and practices of land-based education.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
