High School English Teacher
We are seeking a full-time High School English Teacher to join our Humanities Department. This permanent position offers a thrilling opportunity to teach English and Pre-AP English at the secondary level, inspiring students to develop strong literacy skills, critical thinking abilities, and a lifelong passion for literature.
Position Overview
The High School English Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that aligns with Common Core and Pre-AP/AP frameworks. The ideal applicant will encourage analytical reading, effective writing, research skills, and meaningful discussions in a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engaging, standards-based English instruction
- Teach literature, composition, grammar, and analytical writing
- Prepare students for the challenges of Pre-AP and AP courses
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress
- Differentiating instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs
- Integrate critical thinking, research, and inquiry-based learning
- Effectively use technology to enhance learning experiences
- Participate in curriculum mapping to ensure vertical alignment
- Collaborate within professional learning communities (PLCs)
- Support school initiatives and student activities
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
- Valid teaching certification
- A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching at the high/secondary school level
- Familiarity with Common Core and Pre-AP/AP standards
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education or English
- Experience or training in AP courses
- Background in international school environments
- Understanding of accreditation processes (NEASC, WASC, CIS, IB)
