About the School
Situated in the charming hamlet of Arviat, Nunavut, Qitiqliq Middle School serves the local community. The school caters to approximately 200 students in grades 6-8, supported by a staff of 26. Both the school and the community are rich in Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada).

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-focused education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written).
- Experience in supporting education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
- Experience teaching in bilingual or ESL settings.
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
- Training or experience utilizing current assessment strategies to inform learning.
- Experience in fostering a positive classroom environment through effective management practices and approaches (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in cultivating respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement.
- Experience engaging with students outside the classroom as appropriate.

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student supports.
- Experience working as a part of a school team in a collaborative manner.
- Experience learning from and contributing to a community-focused environment.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Arviat, Nunavut: $21,113
- Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be necessary.

Conditions of Employment
- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut are required to provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
