About this Opportunity
The Kivalliq School Operations, part of the Nunavut Department of Education, is seeking applications for the role of Student Support Teacher. In this position, you will play a crucial role in enhancing student learning through culturally responsive and inclusive practices. You will collaborate with the school team to create, execute, and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) aimed at promoting student growth, development, and overall wellness. Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
• A Special Education Certificate/degree or equivalent coursework is considered an asset
• At least three years of teaching experience
• Experience as a Special Education / Student Support Teacher is viewed favorably
• A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways to Teach Canada)
• Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching environments

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to fulfill all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly regarded.

Student Support & Special Education Expertise
• Experience in collaborating with classroom teachers to formulate and implement individual student support plans for students with exceptionalities
• Experience mentoring staff to promote positive behavior and maintain a safe learning environment

Language and Cultural Assets
• Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
• Experience in supporting education grounded in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
• Experience teaching within cross-cultural or northern Canadian contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
• Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
• Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development (e.g., Balanced Literacy Strategies)
• Experience fostering a positive learning environment utilizing classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
• Experience mentoring staff to support positive behavior and maintain a safe learning environment

Relationships & Student Engagement
• Experience promoting student wellbeing and engagement
• Experience engaging with students beyond the classroom setting as appropriate
• Proven ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders

Collaboration & Professional Practice
• Experience collaborating with Education Support Service Providers (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Psychologists)
• Experience connecting with community support services, such as Family Services and Community Mental Health
• Experience leading and facilitating professional development sessions based on individual and group needs

Technology Integration
• Experience in managing accessibility equipment (e.g., assistive technology for learning devices, Phonak equipment, lifts, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits
• Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
• Nunavut Northern Allowance for Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut: $23,147
• Subsidized Housing: Available, although sharing may be necessary.

Conditions of Employment
• Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
• Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
