Purpose of Role
Your main objective is to inspire students in their French studies, fostering both their enjoyment and success in mastering the language.
Responsible to: The Head of Primary and Head of Secondary for all aspects of the role
Responsible for: The designated students in assigned French language classes within the Cambridge primary and secondary programmes
Responsibilities
- Actively promote and support the BCIS Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Align your instructional approaches with the BCIS Learning Principles within the French learning context.
- Implement all school policies relevant to staff and students.
Key Tasks
Learning and Teaching
- Collaborate with the Head of Department and fellow educators to design, prepare, teach, and evaluate schemes of work as per the National Curriculum of England and Wales (in an international context) and exam board specifications for internal assessments and external examinations.
- Ensure your planning and preparation cater to the individual needs of every student.
- Utilize a diverse range of teaching and learning strategies that align with the BCIS Learning Principles, adapting curricular objectives to meet all students' needs through differentiation and group focus.
- Create a classroom environment that demonstrates the BCIS Learning Principles in action.
- Provide consistent feedback and ensure that student work is marked and assessed following School and Subject Policies, including assessment for learning (AfL) practices.
- Analyze assessment results and leverage this data to inform planning for individual learners and overall class performance.
- Assign homework regularly in accordance with the school’s Homework Policy, reinforcing and extending students’ learning while encouraging them to take ownership of their education.
- Manage the assessment, recording, and reporting for students, adhering to school and subject policies.
- Organize trips and events related to the subject to enrich students’ educational experiences.
- Ensure that appropriate cover work is prepared during your absences from school.
- Provide coverage for absent colleagues as needed, fairly and equitably.
Communication
- Hold regular meetings with French department colleagues to engage in discussions, provide feedback, and plan collaboratively.
- Work closely with learning support/SEN teachers.
- Coordinate with Primary and Secondary School teachers regarding student transitions as required.
- Build and maintain positive relationships between home and school.
- Communicate with parents during consultation meetings and through end-of-year reports.
- Be available to parents at mutually agreed times as necessary.
Professional Development
- Participate in the school, department, and individual review processes (School Self-Evaluation).
- Actively seek opportunities for CPD/professional development.
