About This Role

For September 2026

The British School of Brussels (BSB) is a distinguished not-for-profit, inclusive international institution that serves 1,350 students hailing from around 70 different countries. Nestled in a beautiful green campus in Tervuren, conveniently located near the dynamic cities of Leuven and Brussels, we blend exceptional facilities with a friendly, supportive community.

What distinguishes BSB is not only our educational offerings but also our approach to learning. We emphasize strong relationships, a sense of belonging, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in every facet of school life. Our students are motivated to reach ambitious goals, expand their horizons, and flourish academically, personally, and socially.

From our tailored inquiry-based Primary curriculum to our impressive array of pathways at Post-16 (A Levels, IB Diploma, and BTEC), along with a rich enrichment program featuring hundreds of activities each week, BSB offers extraordinary opportunities for every student. Our graduates are accepted into prestigious universities around the globe, a testament to a culture founded on care, curiosity, and collaboration.

We invite applications from qualified and experienced educators who can bring genuine enthusiasm to our school. We are in search of outstanding teachers who are eager to contribute broadly to the school's vibrant community.

Our students

BSB boasts an impressive track record of academic success, with students progressing to a diverse range of top universities worldwide. In the realm of Languages, our students not only excel in examination results but also find joy in language learning while developing cultural awareness and the skills necessary for confident communication in their future studies or careers.

Languages taught

Currently, the Secondary school at BSB offers instruction in French, German, Spanish, and Dutch. Both French and Dutch, the two primary national languages, are available at First and Second Language levels. French is taught as the first additional language throughout the school and is mandatory for students until the end of Year 11. The second additional language is required from Year 7 to Year 9 and becomes optional in Years 10 and 11. Nonetheless, over two-thirds of each cohort elect to continue both languages for certification at the conclusion of Year 11. Offered qualifications include IGCSE for German, Spanish, and French Second Language; DELF B2 for French First Language; and CNaVT B1 or B2 for Dutch.

All four languages are also available at post-16 level, either at GCE A level or as part of the IB Diploma.

The Modern Languages (ML) Faculty

The mission of the Modern Languages Faculty emphasizes that learners at BSB enjoy studying languages, cultivate cultural understanding, and develop linguistic competencies, enabling them to communicate confidently. Recently, we have undertaken a comprehensive Languages Curriculum Review, placing us at a pivotal moment for growth and development. We aim to attract an individual who can play an active role in enhancing our faculty's vision during this exciting phase.

This part-time position is set for one year to cover a planned extended Leave of Absence for one of our faculty members. The ideal candidate should be capable of teaching Spanish across all Secondary School age groups, preferably with experience in IGCSE, A level, and/or IB Language B.
