Nestled in the Iwate Prefecture mountains of northern Japan, Harrow Appi is redefining British international full-boarding education in the East Asia area. Since our opening in August 2022, and now serving all Year Groups from 7 to 13, we are on the lookout for an accomplished House Master or Mistress to join our team in August 2026. We are particularly interested in educators who have a true passion for working with young people through a holistic framework.

Ideal candidates will embrace the challenges of establishing a new school and will thrive in a mountain lifestyle. They will be open to a seamless integration of their personal and professional lives during term time. We encourage applicants who have a background in the British independent and/or high-quality international education sectors and possess boarding experience, although these are not mandatory.

We specifically seek:

An appropriate educational degree or a bachelor's degree combined with UK QTS.

A solid track record of teaching experience in reputable schools, along with knowledge of the National Curriculum of England and IGCSE/GCSE and A Level syllabi.

The capability to mentor highly capable students, aiding their journey to prestigious universities.

A commitment to boarding and a holistic, values-oriented education.

•
Expertise in supporting students learning English as an additional language.

The safeguarding of our students is paramount. Appointments will be contingent upon:

Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from your home country and any other countries where you have worked.

Satisfactory references from current and previous employers, verified through personal phone calls to each referee (to be conducted during the short-listing process).

The Appi setting, along with the school's nature, attracts dynamic professionals who can fully embrace life in rural, mountainous Japan. Successful candidates will receive two-year renewable contracts with highly competitive employment terms, excellent working conditions, and access to the Appi resort.
