Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates are not required to meet all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
  • Teaching experience in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Background in cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods to guide learning
  • Proven capability in creating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Background in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
  • Experience engaging with students outside the classroom setting, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and supporting students
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a school team
  • Involvement in professional development and community engagement initiatives
