Role Overview

Bellver College is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and considerate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Assistant to support the implementation of inclusive practices and tailored assistance for students across the school.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to become part of a growing Student Support Team and to significantly contribute to the establishment of a comprehensive SEN program from its inception. Working under the guidance of the SENCO, the SEN Assistant will provide direct support to students, assist in executing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or similar learning strategies, and collaborate closely with teachers to ensure that students with diverse learning needs receive the essential support required for their academic, social, and emotional success.

The SEN Assistant plays a pivotal role in translating inclusive values into everyday classroom practices and fostering a sense of belonging within Bellver College.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Inclusion

  • Offer in-class and small-group assistance to students with identified learning needs, as directed by the SENCO.
  • Help students develop their academic, organizational, social, emotional, and self-regulation skills.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and strategies as outlined in IEPs, ILPs, or support plans.
  • Promote student independence, confidence, and self-advocacy rather than reliance on adult support.

  • Support the adaptation of materials, tasks, and assessments to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assist in the integration of assistive technology and inclusive learning tools as required.
  • Monitor and document student progress, engagement, and areas for growth, providing feedback to the SENCO and teaching staff.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with the SENCO as part of a cohesive Student Support Team.
  • Ensure clear and professional communication with teachers, specialists, and support staff.
  • Foster respectful and positive communication with students and families when appropriate, under the direction of the SENCO.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, solution-focused team culture centered on shared responsibility for student achievement.

Program Support & Development

  • Assist in the organization and preparation of resources, documentation, and learning materials for SEN services.
  • Support data collection, progress tracking, and record management in accordance with SEN systems and protocols.
  • Contribute ideas, reflections, and observations to enhance Bellver College’s inclusion program continuously.

Safeguarding & Professional Practice

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism regarding student information.
  • Engage in professional development related to inclusion, neurodiversity, and student support.
  • Demonstrate reflective practice and a readiness to receive feedback and pursue professional growth.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional learning needs in a school or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive values and a commitment to supporting diverse learners.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education, inclusive education, or child development.
  • Experience in an international, bilingual, or culturally diverse educational environment.
  • Familiarity with learning differences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or similar profiles.

Skills & Attributes
