About This Role

Are you ready for your next professional journey?

The Position
The British School of Ulaanbaatar is in search of a fully qualified Primary Teacher for an initial contract spanning two academic years, from August 2025 to July 2027, with the potential for renewal thereafter. Please refer to the full job description included with this advertisement. Applicants must have training in the National Curriculum of England and Wales, and experience working in the UK or international schools that follow a British-style curriculum is highly preferred. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply, as the School offers a two-year Early Career Framework (ECF) programme. We are seeking dedicated, adaptable, and innovative teachers who possess cultural awareness and a spirit of adventure.

In addition to fulfilling the teaching responsibilities associated with this role, all teachers at BSU are expected to engage in our vibrant extra-curricular activity programme. We especially welcome candidates eager to make a positive impact in the Ulaanbaatar community and beyond.

For further details, please consult the attached Academic Year Calendar for 2025-26.

The School
Established in 2012, the British School of Ulaanbaatar stands as one of the premier institutions in Central Asia, dedicated to offering students aged three to eighteen an education that prepares them for the world, emphasizing academic achievement and personal development through challenges. We take pride in our strong academic performance and the diverse educational experiences we offer. The School adheres to the Cambridge International curricula, guiding students toward IGCSEs and A-Levels. A significant percentage of our graduates progress to prestigious international universities worldwide. We welcome both expatriate and Mongolian families while fostering a warm, community-oriented environment. BSU is fully accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, British Schools Overseas (AoBSO), and has recently confirmed membership with the Council of International Schools (CIS).

The Location
Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, is a vibrant city where modern infrastructure coexists with ancient lamaseries and traditional ger districts. The city boasts a rich social scene, allowing local residents and expatriates to interact freely. It offers direct flights to major global cities including Seoul, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Istanbul, along with access to more remote domestic locations.

Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, Ulaanbaatar provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities and unique cultural experiences. Adventurous souls can partake in trekking, horseback riding, skiing, cycling, and camping, exploring the picturesque lakes, forests, mountains, and deserts that characterize this stunning country.

Mongolia's climate is known for its extremes; however, the low humidity levels make both summer and winter conditions more manageable than one might expect. Frequent high-pressure systems lead to clear, blue skies, enhancing the dramatic scenery. The severe air pollution that previously affected Ulaanbaatar has significantly improved in recent years, thanks to government initiatives focusing on smokeless fuels.

Terms and Conditions
The initial contract begins on 18th August 2025, coinciding with the induction and onboarding period for new staff members. Salaries are competitive and based on experience. Benefits include full tuition fee coverage for dependent children at the School, comprehensive medical insurance, and flight and luggage allowances at the start and conclusion of the contract. Furnished accommodation on the School campus is available and is the preferred choice for many expatriate staff. Detailed terms and conditions will be provided following successful interviews.

How to Apply
To apply for this role, please submit the following information:

- A completed TES online application form, detailing your qualifications, professional training, and all previous employment, alongside a cover letter expressing your interest in and suitability for the position, highlighting the skills and attributes you wish to showcase.
- Contact information for at least two referees, one of whom must be your current or most recent employer (Head of School/Principal or Chair of the Governing Body).

All necessary documents should be submitted through the TES Portal. The application deadline is Friday, 28th February 2025. We encourage early submissions, as online interviews will commence promptly, and the School reserves the right to appoint candidates before the deadline. The recruitment process will be conducted online, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and it requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The School's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Whistleblowing Policy are included in this advertisement, and we encourage all interested individuals to review them before applying.

Candidates who successfully navigate the interview process should anticipate undergoing comprehensive background and reference checks, along with the provision of personal and medical information as required for entry into Mongolia. Referees will need to affirm that applicants are not subject to any ongoing safeguarding or disciplinary investigations and are not aware of any factors that would prevent them from working with children. Applicants from the U.K. will be required to complete a vetting and barring check prior to their arrival in Mongolia, with equivalent checks conducted for candidates from other nationalities. Additionally, all applicants must provide certificates of good conduct from every country of previous residence and employment. It is important to note that any prior criminal activity or convictions on a permanent record will disqualify candidates from employment with BSU and residency in Mongolia.
