Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates do not need to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
  • Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive educational methods
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Training or experience using contemporary assessment techniques to guide learning
  • Experience creating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Proven ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
  • Engagement with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and support for students
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and community partners
