About the School
Situated in the charming hamlet of Coral Harbour, Nunavut, Sakku School caters to the local population. The institution accommodates around 340 students in a K-12 framework and is supported by a staff of 40. Both the school and the community are rich in Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to possess all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching environments
- Familiarity with teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canada contexts
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Training or experience in employing current assessment methods to inform learning
- Experience in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Proven experience in nurturing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Engagement with students outside the classroom when appropriate
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in planning instruction and student support through collaborative methods
- History of working cooperatively as part of a school team
- Experience in learning and contributing within a community-focused setting
Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Coral Harbour, Nunavut: $23,147
- Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be necessary.
Conditions of Employment
- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
