The Ministry of Education, at Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville, within the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, is seeking ASL-English Interpreters to offer interpreting services in educational and resource programs for both students and staff who may not share the same language or cultural background.

About the job
What responsibilities will this role entail?
• Facilitate interpreting services for Deaf students and staff in diverse contexts.
• Offer interpreting services for administrative and professional personnel in sensitive and challenging situations.
• Provide interpreting support during training sessions and workshops.

What qualifications should you bring to our team?
Mandatory requirements
• A Degree or Diploma in ASL-English Interpreting
• Proficiency in both American Sign Language and English

Knowledge and Skills: Your prior experience equips you to fulfill the following criteria:
• Capacity to interpret across a broad spectrum of formal, informal, educational, and professional environments.
• Familiarity with the Professional Code of Ethics established by the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI).
• Advanced fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and an understanding of Deaf culture.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience interpreting for both small and large groups.
