Teacher - Language Specialist
Grade: K-12

School Description:
Inuujaq School serves approximately 330 students in grades K-12. The Nunavut Department of Education is dedicated to fostering staff development through thoughtfully crafted professional learning opportunities. Our schools are currently prioritizing the enhancement of literacy outcomes for all students while ensuring that their educational experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be bilingual in English and Inuktitut
- Must be eligible for a Nunavut Teaching Certificate as a Language Specialist
If a qualified candidate cannot be found, this position may be offered as a one-year term under Letter of Teaching Authority Certification.
Desired Qualifications:
- Relevant subject knowledge, training, and experience
- Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods
- Evidence of differentiated instruction and inclusive educational practices
- Experience and/or training in classroom management and creating positive learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)
- Experience in cross-cultural and/or northern teaching
- Training and/or experience in Balanced Literacy
- Experience in an ESL teaching environment
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and stakeholders
- Skills/training in education-related technology, such as SMART Boards
- Strong planning skills (lesson, theme, unit, year, and student support plans)
Salary: $78,206 to $94,389
Northern Allowance for Arctic Bay, Nunavut: $25,453

Current Government of Nunavut employees are required to have a valid Nunavut teaching certificate and must submit a current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) before finalizing their appointment to the position. External applicants not currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must also submit a current CRC and VSC prior to finalizing their appointment.
