Required Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Background in teaching in a bilingual or ESL environment
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canada contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Familiarity with current assessment methods to inform learning
- Background in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Involvement with students beyond the classroom setting, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Ability to work effectively as part of a school team
- Contribution to a shared, community-focused learning environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Arctic Bay, Nunavut: $25,453
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Candidates from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction acknowledged by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
