Qikiqtani School Operations is seeking applications for the following role:
Teacher - Language Specialist
Grade: K-5
Closing Date: Open until filled

School Overview:
Alookie School serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 5, with an enrollment of approximately 215 students. The Nunavut Department of Education is dedicated to fostering staff development through well-structured professional learning opportunities. Currently, Nunavut schools are concentrating on enhancing literacy outcomes for all students while ensuring that learning experiences are both culturally relevant and respectful.

Required Qualifications:
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Inuktitut
- Eligibility for a Nunavut Teaching Certificate as a Language Specialist

In the absence of a qualified candidate, this position may be available as a one-year term under a Letter of Teaching Authority Certification.

Desired Qualifications:
- Relevant subject knowledge, training, and experience for this role
- Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods
- Demonstrated ability in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Experience and/or training in classroom management and fostering positive learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)
- Experience teaching in cross-cultural settings or northern environments
- Training and/or experience in Balanced Literacy
- Experience in an ESL teaching environment
- Proven ability to establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and stakeholders
- Proficiency in using education-related technology, such as SMART Boards
- Planning skills for lessons, themes, units, years, and student support plans

Salary: $78,206 to $94,389
The Northern Allowance for Pangnirtung, Nunavut is $19,077.

Current Government of Nunavut employees must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate and submit a current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) before finalizing their appointment. External candidates (those not currently employed by the Government of Nunavut) must also submit a current CRC and VSC prior to appointment finalization.
