The York School is an independent co-educational institution located in midtown Toronto, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) program from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. JOB PURPOSE
The York School is in search of Supply Teachers for the 2025/2026 Academic Year to facilitate curriculum delivery and support learning in the classroom during the absence of the regular Teacher. While advance assignments are preferred, Supply Teachers may also receive requests for same-day coverage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute all standard teaching responsibilities to further the curriculum established by the regular Teacher.
- Consistently model appropriate behavior for students and fellow community members.
- Implement lesson plans while maintaining academic integrity and fostering an engaging learning environment.
- Complete a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom Teacher at the conclusion of each class or teaching session.
- Comprehend and comply with school policies and procedures, including those related to emergencies.
- Report any student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and disciplinary issues to the appropriate authority promptly or as soon as feasible.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.
- Training and experience in teaching within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework is considered advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, contributing positively to an inclusive school culture.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong capability to engage collaboratively with students, parents, and staff, prioritizing a service-oriented approach characterized by professionalism, respect, and responsiveness in all interactions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in navigating a technology-rich educational setting, with expertise in Google Workspace viewed as beneficial.
