About This Role

Aldar Education is on the lookout for an exceptional Teacher of Design Technology (Secondary School) to become part of Muna British Academy in Abu Dhabi, starting in the 2026–2027 academic year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning

• Display strong subject expertise across the science curriculum, providing high-quality instruction throughout Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, including GCSE, A Level, and BTEC pathways as appropriate.

• Instruct across the science subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics at Key Stage 3, with the ability to specialize in a particular subject area at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 when needed.

• Deliver engaging, well-organized lessons that enhance students’ scientific knowledge, investigative skills, critical thinking, and understanding of real-world scientific applications.

• Design and implement schemes of work that align with the UK National Curriculum at KS3 and the requirements set by examination boards at KS4 and KS5.

• Prepare students thoroughly for external qualifications including (I)GCSE, A Level, and BTEC science qualifications.

• Foster scientific inquiry through practical investigations, experimentation, observation, and data analysis.

• Provide exemplary guidance and feedback during coursework and practical assessments to ensure students meet examination standards.

• Develop lesson plans and learning sequences that cater to all learners, ensuring appropriate challenges and support for diverse abilities.

• Utilize assessment effectively to track student progress, inform instructional planning, and support students in reaching their potential.

• Cultivate students’ independence, resilience, and problem-solving abilities through hands-on and investigative learning experiences.

• Ensure that science laboratories and classrooms are organized efficiently, and that resources and displays create a stimulating and safe learning environment.

• Uphold high standards of laboratory safety, ensuring students adhere to safe practices when conducting practical investigations and using scientific tools.

• Employ a variety of teaching strategies, including digital technology and blended learning approaches, to enhance student engagement and progress.

• Address the needs of all learners, including POD (SEN), EAL, and G&T students through effective differentiation and inclusive teaching methods.

• Contribute to the development of the science curriculum, ensuring it remains engaging, rigorous, and aligned with advancements in science education and industry.

Assessment, Progress, and Achievement

• Monitor and assess student progress using data to inform instructional practices and identify students needing additional challenges or support.

• Offer clear, constructive feedback that aids students in enhancing their scientific knowledge, investigative skills, and examination performance.

• Prepare students effectively for both internal and external assessments through structured guidance, revision techniques, and exam readiness.

• Participate in departmental moderation and standardization processes to guarantee accurate and consistent assessment.

• Assist students in developing the practical, analytical, and evaluative skills necessary for GCSE, A Level, and BTEC science qualifications.

Behaviour Management and Student Wellbeing

• Adhere to the school’s behavior policy while maintaining high expectations for student conduct and engagement.

• Effectively manage classrooms using positive behavior strategies to create a focused and productive learning atmosphere.

• Build positive relationships with students, promoting respect, responsibility, and independence.

• Serve as a positive role model, embodying the values and ethos of the school.

• Support students’ pastoral development and contribute to their overall wellbeing and safeguarding.

Professional Responsibilities and Wider Contribution

• Engage in the broader life of the school through enrichment activities, clubs, and competitions that enhance students’ learning beyond the classroom.

• Support whole-school initiatives and cross-curricular opportunities that encourage creativity, sustainability, innovation, and enterprise.

• Participate in departmental planning, professional development, and collaborative efforts with colleagues.

• Keep accurate records and contribute to reporting and communication processes with parents.

• Fulfill duties and responsibilities as directed in accordance with the school’s policies and expectations.

• Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, child protection, and professional conduct at all times.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field along with a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.

Minimum Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:

• Essential experience in an international school setting.

• Experience working with students for whom English is not their first language (EAL).

• Must be approachable, professional, calm, and knowledgeable.

• Ability to interact professionally with a range of stakeholders.
