An exciting opportunity awaits at The Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch in one of our three (3) Schools for the Deaf:

  • Robarts School for the Deaf – London

Our schools are dedicated to providing outstanding education for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We are in search of innovative educators with active certification from the Ontario College of Teachers who are available for on-call/supply teaching.

Daily compensation for certified Supply Teachers is set at $262.09.

Please be informed that PDSB is currently inviting applications from teachers qualified by OCT who are interested in obtaining the Deaf Specialist designation. Candidates with less than ASL fluency may have access to support from an ASL/English Interpreter in the classroom while working towards fluency in ASL.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must have Certification and be in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT); we encourage teacher candidates with a Transitional Certificate or those awaiting OCT to apply; candidates pursuing the Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing qualification will also be considered;
  • Qualifications for Primary/Junior and/or Intermediate/Senior divisions are required;
  • Preferred experience in teaching Deaf/hard of hearing students in both academic environments and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities;
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred, but PDSB will consider candidates who are willing to develop ASL fluency.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to teach Deaf students in academic programs and those designed for students with multiple exceptionalities;
  • Capability to create or modify lesson plans and/or develop IEPs as needed for effective instruction of Deaf students;
  • Strong understanding of the methodologies for teaching Deaf students;
  • Effective classroom management skills using various behavioral management techniques;
  • Adept at producing and presenting educational materials and lesson plans with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in ASL and English;
  • Thorough understanding of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and support students with multiple exceptionalities.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
