About This Role

The Deputy Head of Secondary, reporting directly to the Head of Secondary, will play a significant role in the following areas:

- Promoting and fostering the ethos of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Advocating for and exemplifying ‘The GFM Way,’ ensuring that it remains central to all school improvement efforts with a focus on putting children first.
- Assisting in the development and execution of the school’s strategic plan, excellence plan, and other key improvement initiatives.
- Contributing to the leadership and management of both staff and students.
- Ensuring that all students receive a high-quality school experience that leads to desired outcomes.
- Providing an exceptional customer experience for all parents.
- Maintaining high academic standards that align with the school’s commitment to helping every student achieve their best, as well as meeting the targets set by the UAE National Agenda.
- Defining the school’s aims and objectives and establishing policies to achieve them.
- Managing staff and resources to support these goals.
- Monitoring progress towards the school’s aims and objectives.
- Overseeing budgets and performing teaching and other professional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

Duties and Responsibilities

School Culture and Behavior

- Consistently uphold The GFM Way.
- Embrace and promote the ethos and standards of excellence defined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Secondary Leadership Team, and Vice Principal to implement effective, globally-relevant teaching and learning practices.
- Realize the school’s vision for quality education in alignment with GEMS standards for excellence.
- Foster a culture where students enjoy a positive and enriching school experience.
- Uphold educational standards to prepare students from diverse backgrounds for their next educational and life phases.
- Promote a culture of professionalism among staff.
- Encourage high standards of behavior among students, supported by clear rules and routines understood by both staff and students, and consistently modeled by all adults in the school.
- Apply consistent and equitable methods for managing behavior in accordance with the school’s behavior policy.

Teaching, Curriculum, and Assessment

- Advocate for the 'Teach Like a GEM' philosophy.
- Champion Instructional Coaching and the utilization of Steplab.
- Ensure high-quality teaching across all subjects and phases, grounded in evidence.
- Guarantee that teaching is supported by subject expertise.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation systems to assess teaching and learning standards, implementing necessary improvement strategies.
- Ensure the delivery of a broad, structured, and coherent curriculum.
- Establish curriculum leadership, incorporating subject leaders with relevant expertise and access to professional networks.
- Employ valid, reliable, and proportionate methods of assessing students’ knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
