St. Peter’s International School, located in Palmela near Lisbon, serves around 1,500 students aged 4 months to 18 years on a modern 37,000 m² campus. The institution provides a bilingual education (Portuguese/English), offers Cambridge programs, and the International Baccalaureate, alongside boarding options for older students. With excellent facilities, small class sizes, and a strong culture of academic excellence, St. Peter’s creates an inspiring environment for both students and educators.

We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced IB Portuguese Teacher to join our team. The ideal applicant will demonstrate extensive subject knowledge and a thorough understanding of the IB philosophy, with the ability to deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that encourage critical thinking, intercultural awareness, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, inquiry-driven Portuguese lessons that foster critical thinking, international-mindedness, and student agency, ensuring all learners are engaged, challenged, and supported.
  • Create, prepare, and implement units of inquiry that align with IB philosophy, including MYP/DP frameworks, assessment criteria, and Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) skills.
  • Evaluate, track, and document student progress using IB assessment practices, providing timely, constructive feedback that encourages reflection and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and concept-driven learning environment that supports well-being, academic excellence, and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity.
  • Contribute to the holistic and pastoral development of students, supporting their personal, social, and emotional growth in line with IB learner profile attributes.
  • Effectively utilize digital tools and learning technologies to enhance inquiry, collaboration, and communication within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the IB coordination team to ensure consistency, alignment, and the highest educational standards.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, reflecting on practices, embracing innovation, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the IB program.
  • Participate in professional development, welcoming new ideas and consistently enhancing teaching practices.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A strong qualification, enthusiasm, and a deep commitment to the principles and values of the International Baccalaureate.
  • Proven excellence as an inquiry-driven classroom practitioner, capable of facilitating substantial progress for all students through differentiated, concept-based instruction.
  • A clear vision of outstanding IB teaching and learning, emphasizing the promotion of international-mindedness, student agency, and the cultivation of ATL skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, ensuring high-quality unit design that aligns with MYP/DP frameworks.
  • A positive, open-minded attitude, embracing reflection, collaboration, and ongoing professional growth within a dynamic IB environment.
