About This Role

We are seeking a Founding IB PYP Coordinator to become part of our team as we initiate the launch of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). This is a remarkable opportunity to shape the development of the programme and support the school in obtaining IB World School authorization.

Job Overview

The Founding PYP Coordinator will play a pivotal role in establishing the Primary Years Programme at Tirana American International School (TAIS). Working closely with the school leadership, the selected candidate will guide the school’s efforts to achieve IB World School status while implementing the Primary Years Programme.

This coordinator will be key in promoting an understanding of IB philosophy, inquiry-based learning, and international-mindedness during the candidacy process. Responsibilities will encompass managing the feasibility study, preparing the IB candidacy application, and assisting in the development of essential programme documentation and policies. Furthermore, the coordinator will prepare staff and academic frameworks to ensure effective implementation and future authorization.

In addition to programme leadership, the PYP Coordinator will engage in teaching responsibilities within the Primary School on a reduced timetable, showcasing exemplary practices in inquiry-based learning and supporting teachers in applying IB teaching methodologies.

Qualification & Experience Requirements

  • A qualified educator with substantial experience in teaching within the IB Primary Years Programme
  • Strong understanding of IB philosophy, principles, and practices
  • Experience in collaborative planning and the development of Units of Inquiry within the PYP
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background in curriculum development or programme leadership
  • Proven experience in facilitating professional development for teachers
  • Outstanding communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities
  • Valuable experience in guiding schools through IB candidacy or authorization processes

Leadership & Programme Development

  • Lead the creation and candidacy journey of the school’s IB PYP
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the school and the International Baccalaureate Organization
  • Oversee the development of IB-aligned policies and programme documentation
  • Aid in the creation and enhancement of the Programme of Inquiry
  • Support teachers in implementing inquiry-based learning and IB pedagogical approaches
  • Facilitate collaborative planning meetings and curriculum development across various year groups
  • Work with school leadership to establish systems that promote high-quality teaching and learning
  • Assist in developing school structures and practices that comply with IB standards and guidelines

Teaching & Learning

  • Teach a limited timetable within the Primary School
  • Model best practices in inquiry-based education
  • Support teachers in the design and implementation of Units of Inquiry
  • Encourage student agency, curiosity, and critical thinking skills
  • Inspire innovative and engaging learning experiences that embody IB philosophy

Assessment & Programme Development

  • Help establish consistent and meaningful assessment practices
  • Guide educators in utilizing assessments to enhance teaching and monitor student progress
  • Collaborate with school leadership to oversee the development and implementation of the PYP
  • Contribute to the preparation of essential documentation for IB evaluation and authorization

Communication & Community Engagement

  • Facilitate communication with parents regarding the principles of the IB philosophy and educational approach
  • Lead informational sessions or workshops to introduce the PYP framework
  • Enhance the school community's understanding of inquiry-based learning
  • Contribute to enriching the school’s international learning environment.
