Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
While candidates are not expected to possess every qualification, relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience with education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in bilingual or ESL teaching environments
- Familiarity with cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching experiences

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive educational practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Familiarity with current assessment strategies to enhance learning
- Proven experience in fostering a positive classroom atmosphere through effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Active engagement with students beyond the classroom when applicable

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Proven track record of working collaboratively as part of a school team
- Dedication to learning and contributing in a community-focused educational setting

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Housing assistance: Available, though sharing may be necessary.

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut are required to submit a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
