Position Available: Secondary School English Teacher

We are currently seeking a qualified IGCSE/A Level English teacher who can instruct Key Stage 3 & 4 English (including IGCSE Language and Literature). The ideal candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of success in both IGCSE Language and Literature, with a strong understanding of Cambridge 0511, 0500, and 0486 as well as A Level 9093 and 9695, starting on Friday, August 21, 2026.

ABOUT IBSB

Situated in the heart of the city, IBSB is known for its academic and athletic excellence. It holds the distinction of being the first British DfE-inspected school in Romania, the first international institution accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Education, a fully accredited member of COBIS & AoBSO, the first High-Performance Learning (HPL) school in Romania, and the first NACE Challenge Award School in the country.

Following an ISI inspection in September 2022, IBSB received the highest possible rating of 'Excellent' for the 'Quality of Education' provided, with 57% of our IGCSE students achieving grades in the A-A* range and 95% of graduates being offered places at the top 5% of universities worldwide. Our student body consists of approximately 500 learners, with 65% being Romanian and 35% international, representing over 30 different countries.

LIVING IN ROMANIA

Romania is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant countries in Europe to both live and work. The Romanian people are known for their warmth and friendliness, and many are well-educated, with most speaking two or more languages, including English.

The lifestyle here features four distinct seasons, with stunning beaches, Europe’s last remaining mountain wilderness, a variety of ski resorts just over 90 minutes from Bucharest, picturesque old towns with cobblestone streets, a plethora of castles and monasteries, and a climate that boasts more sunny days than rainy ones. Notably, King Charles III has two residences in Romania, citing it as one of his favorite destinations—his first visit post-coronation was to this country.

Romania's central location within the EU allows for low-cost flights, such as Ryanair and Wizzair, to most major cities for under 100 euros when booked in advance, including return trips to the UK. Additionally, one can typically save a significant portion of their salary here—generally more than in Spain, Italy, Greece, and other Mediterranean or Black Sea regions.

LIFE IN BUCHAREST

The capital city is known for being clean and safe, featuring an efficient public metro and tram system that costs only about 20 euros for a monthly pass (free for students). It is safe to walk alone at night, and there are plenty of weekend activities to explore. The city is dotted with malls housing Western brand shops and restaurants, all at prices much lower than in Western Europe, allowing your money to stretch further.

International teachers earn 2-3 times the average salary, making it relatively easy to save money, and dining out is quite affordable, averaging around 15 euros for a two-course meal with a drink—many of our international staff enjoy frequent meals out.

Furthermore, it is possible to save enough for a deposit on your own apartment by the end of your initial contract, as many staff members have successfully done.

TEACHING AT IBSB

Students at IBSB generally exceed the UK average in both ability and behavior, making teaching here a rewarding experience. The school provides ample support from both staff and parents, and we are fortunate to have one of the most engaged Parent Associations I have encountered, which recently organized a surprise morning tea for staff to express their gratitude for a successful first term.

ISI INSPECTION REPORT (SEPT 2022) - 'AWARDED EXCELLENT'

The school received top marks in the September 2022 ISI British Schools Overseas inspection, rated Excellent for the Quality of Education regarding student learning, achievement, personal development, and wellbeing. BSO Report Template (ibsb.ro)
