ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Peter’s International School, situated in Palmela near Lisbon, caters to approximately 1,500 students aged from 4 months to 18 years on a state-of-the-art 37,000 m² campus. The institution provides a bilingual curriculum in Portuguese and English, along with Cambridge programs and the International Baccalaureate, as well as boarding options for upper-year students. We are currently in search of an enthusiastic and highly qualified IB / IGCSE Chemistry Teacher to implement the IGCSE and IB Chemistry curricula beginning in August 2026. This position presents an exciting opportunity for an educator who is committed to fostering scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, and a thorough understanding of chemical principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement engaging, differentiated lessons for IGCSE and IB Chemistry, as well as Cambridge Lower Secondary Science when necessary.

• Promote a comprehensive understanding of fundamental chemistry topics, including atomic structure, bonding, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, and organic chemistry.

• Establish a dynamic, inclusive classroom atmosphere that promotes exploration, experimentation, and critical thinking.

• Relate Chemistry concepts to real-world scenarios, industry applications, environmental challenges, and current scientific research.

• Incorporate practical laboratory experiences, experimental design, data analysis, and inquiry-based learning methods.

• Regularly evaluate student progress and offer constructive feedback to aid in both academic and personal development.

• Participate in curriculum development, ensuring that the content aligns with international standards and remains relevant and engaging.

• Encourage involvement in extracurricular activities such as science clubs, competitions, and enrichment programs.

• Cultivate a respectful, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that prioritizes student well-being.

• Forge strong connections with students, parents, and colleagues to enhance learning and development.

• Pursue ongoing professional development and contribute to school initiatives, events, and mentorship opportunities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A degree in Chemistry, Education, or a related discipline (teaching qualification is preferred).

• Experience in teaching IGCSE and/or IB Chemistry, or similar international curricula.

• A passion for Chemistry education and a drive to spark curiosity through scientific exploration.

• Strong practical laboratory capabilities and a dedication to maintaining safe laboratory practices.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities.

• Experience in an international or multicultural setting (preferred).

• Proficient command of English and a clear commitment to student well-being and safeguarding.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
