Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Teachers with international education without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While candidates do not need to meet every qualification, relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Training or background in evidence-based literacy development
  • Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods to guide learning
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Proven ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
  • Involvement with students beyond classroom activities, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaborative planning for instruction and student support
