About This Role

Overview of the Position

This position is primarily focused on teaching Middle School English Language Arts, with the possibility of instructing some High School English Language Arts classes. The curriculum adheres to American Common Core Standards, aiming to nurture critical and creative thinkers who can read and write effectively, collaborate efficiently, reflect thoughtfully, and tackle problems with integrity. Students will also learn to be responsible digital citizens, employing a range of multimedia tools for creative and proficient communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (a master’s degree is desirable).
  • Valid teaching certification/license relevant to the subject or grade level.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and inspiring students.
  • Ability to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.

Curriculum Development

  • Design and implement an engaging and effective curriculum that aligns with the school’s educational standards and objectives.
  • Plan and prepare well-structured, clearly defined units and lessons that cater to all students’ abilities and the relevant curriculum.
  • Create lesson/unit plans, instructional materials, and assessments that accommodate various learning styles and capacities.
  • Continuously update and refine teaching strategies and resources based on student performance and feedback.
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum planning meetings to ensure vertical alignment of educational standards.

Classroom Management

  • Create a classroom environment that is welcoming and stimulating to effectively facilitate learning.
  • Maintain a well-organized and conducive classroom setting that promotes positive learning experiences.
  • Establish clear and consistent rules and expectations to sustain a respectful and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Manage student behavior effectively, using appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary while fostering a constructive approach to discipline.
  • Promote high standards of conduct by encouraging a proactive approach to learning and building positive relationships with students.
  • Demonstrate high standards of organization in your own conduct.
  • Maintain high standards in the use of English as the common language and assist students in developing their English skills for academic pursuits.

Instruction and Delivery

  • Teach up to a 75% course load (for example: 6 out of 8 blocks in an A/B cycle (MSHS)).
  • Deliver engaging, high-quality, and interactive lessons that actively involve students and promote engagement.
  • Spark enthusiasm for the subject matter and inspire all students to reach their full potential.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods, technology, and multimedia resources to enhance the learning experience.
  • Adapt lessons as needed to ensure accessibility for students of all ability levels.
  • Provide targeted assistance to students requiring additional support, addressing their unique challenges.
  • Maintain instructional materials and resources as necessary.
  • Help students develop skills that align with the school’s values and mission.
  • Assign homework in line with policy, ensuring it is relevant to the student’s capabilities and overall workload.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Design varied and authentic assessments that correspond with the skills and content of the unit.
  • Regularly create and administer assessments to evaluate student progress.

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
