Job Overview

The Founding PYP Coordinator will be instrumental in spearheading the establishment of the Primary Years Programme at Tirana American International School (TAIS). Collaborating closely with school leadership, the chosen candidate will steer the institution's efforts to gain IB World School status while implementing the Primary Years Programme.

This coordinator will be essential in fostering understanding of IB philosophy, inquiry-based learning, and international-mindedness during the candidacy phase. Responsibilities will include managing the feasibility study and preparing the IB candidacy application, as well as aiding in the creation of vital programme documentation and policies. Additionally, the coordinator will prepare staff and academic frameworks for successful implementation and future authorization.

Beyond programme leadership, the PYP Coordinator will also engage in teaching responsibilities within the Primary School on a reduced timetable, demonstrating exemplary practices in inquiry-based learning and assisting teachers with the application of IB teaching methodologies.

Qualification & Experience Requirements

• A qualified educator with extensive experience in teaching within the IB Primary Years Programme

• Deep understanding of IB philosophy, principles, and practices

• Experience in collaborative planning and development of Units of Inquiry within the PYP

• Background in curriculum development or programme leadership is preferred

• Proven experience in facilitating teacher professional development

• Exceptional communication, leadership, and teamwork skills

• Experience guiding schools through IB candidacy or authorization processes is highly valued

Leadership & Programme Development

• Drive the school’s IB PYP creation and candidacy journey

• Act as the main point of contact between the institution and the International Baccalaureate Organization

• Oversee the formulation of IB-aligned policies and programme documentation

• Assist in crafting and refining the Programme of Inquiry

• Support teachers in implementing inquiry-based learning and IB pedagogical strategies

• Lead collaborative planning meetings and curriculum development across different year groups

• Collaborate with school leadership to put in place systems that foster high-quality teaching and learning

• Aid in establishing school structures and practices that align with IB standards and guidelines

Teaching & Learning

• Teach a limited timetable within the Primary School

• Exemplify best practices in inquiry-based education

• Assist teachers in designing and executing Units of Inquiry

• Foster student agency, curiosity, and critical thinking skills

• Inspire innovative and engaging learning experiences that reflect IB philosophy

Assessment & Programme Development

• Aid in establishing consistent and meaningful assessment practices

• Guide educators in leveraging assessments to enhance teaching and track student progress

• Partner with school leadership to oversee the development and execution of the PYP

• Contribute to the preparation of necessary documentation for IB evaluation and authorization

Communication & Community Engagement

• Facilitate communication with parents regarding the principles of the IB philosophy and educational approach

• Lead informational sessions or workshops to introduce the PYP framework

• Enhance understanding of inquiry-based learning within the school community

• Contribute to the enrichment of the school’s international learning culture

Professional Development

• Assist teachers in deepening their understanding of IB philosophy and inquiry-based education

• Facilitate professional learning opportunities related to the implementation of the PYP

• Promote reflective practices and continuous professional development among staff

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
