Egypt British International School (EBIS) is looking to appoint a remarkable and seasoned Head of English (Whole School) to guide our English department for the 2026 academic year, in line with our mission of Enriching – Exploring – Excelling and our values of enrichment, empowerment, esteem, and excellence.

This pivotal leadership position is ideal for a vibrant and innovative educator dedicated to enhancing English standards across all key stages while also maintaining a teaching role in the Middle School.

The successful candidate will champion exceptional teaching and learning, nurture a passion for language and literature, and lead a unified, high-achieving department within a supportive, culturally rich British-curriculum setting.

Requirements:

● A Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related discipline, with recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

● A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience, including time spent in a British-curriculum school.

● Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g., Head of Department, Key Stage Coordinator, or a similar position).

● Strong expertise in English Language and Literature, along with a clear understanding of progression from Primary through Middle (KS1–KS3 preferred).

● Proven ability to lead curriculum development, assessment strategies, and departmental improvement initiatives.

● Proficiency in delivering engaging, student-focused lessons and exemplifying excellent teaching practices.

● Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with the capability to inspire and mentor others.

● Experience in using data analysis to enhance student progress and outcomes.

● A commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment and upholding high expectations for all students.

Job Description:

● Oversee and manage the English department throughout the school, ensuring exceptional standards of teaching and learning.

● Design, implement, and regularly review a cohesive English curriculum in alignment with the UK National Curriculum and the school’s vision.

● Monitor and assess teaching quality, providing coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for staff.

● Teach English in the Middle School (Key Stage 3), exemplifying outstanding classroom practices.

● Supervise assessment, tracking, and reporting systems to ensure student progress and achievement.

● Analyze performance data to inform strategic planning and targeted interventions.

● Ensure uniformity in planning, delivery, marking, and feedback across all key stages.

● Cultivate a culture of reading, writing, and oracy throughout the school.

● Support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth in accordance with the school’s values.

● Collaborate with senior leadership on initiatives for whole-school improvement.

● Maintain effective communication with parents/guardians regarding curriculum, progress, and student well-being.

● Lead departmental meetings, moderation processes, and curriculum development projects.

● Encourage enrichment opportunities such as debating, creative writing, public speaking, and drama activities.

● Participate in and lead CPD sessions, contributing to the ongoing professional development of staff.
